Great burgers in Copenhagen

Sliders
The idea for Sliders came when one of the owners complained that he couldn’t taste all of the different burgers on a menu because they were too big. He put that right with Sliders, where you can choose from mini-burgers in nine different flavors, including braised pork, duck and chicken or beef in a red wine sauce. Sliders has won both the AOK Prize and Politiken’s award for best burger and you can buy a single slider for DKr45, while a meal with three different sliders and fries costs DKr129. As well as a range of dips for your fries, you can even have them covered with real gold leaf for an extra DKr50. Quench your thirst with your choice of cocktail, beer, wine, shake, water or coffee.

Blaabjerg & Madsen
Blaabjerg & Madsen isn’t your typical burger joint, but they know their stuff. Here you’ll get double-fried French fries and a good meaty-tasting burger wrapped in one of their soft buns – homemade and most of them organic. The décor may be more New Nordic café than fast-food joint, but you can properly satisfy your burger craving, fairly quickly and at a reasonable price – a burger and fries can be had for DKr75 at lunchtime and DKr 90 in the evening, while a meal including slow juice costs DKr 128. Locations in Frederiksberg and Vesterbro.

Gasoline Grill
When American media company Bloomberg sent three burger experts on a mission to locate the world’s best burgers, they actually found one of them in Copenhagen, at Gasoline Grill, which serves its burgers from a former petrol station. Owner Klaus Wittrup developed a taste for American burgers when he lived in Chicago and in 2016 he opened up his burger bar selling four different kinds of burger. The burgers are made from organic meat, while the bun is baked partly using potato flour, which absorbs some of the moisture from the burger. Since being proclaimed one of the best in the world, Gasoline Grill has been hyped so much that they have had to expand with a second outlet to keep up with demand. You’ll find it at Niels Hemmingsens gade 2.

Jagger
In no time at all, Jagger has taken the Copenhagen burger scene by storm and since it first opened in Vesterbro has spread to Amager, Frederiksberg and Nørrebro. The man behind Jagger is former Michelin-starred chef Rasmus Oubæk, whose concept is that a good burger should not cost much more than at McDonald’s and should be simple and fast. The burger meat at Jagger is juicy, pink in the middle and wrapped in a soft brioche bun. The filling is simple and good and can be boosted with some extra cheese and bacon for a modest additional charge. The fries are similar to those at McDonald’s and you can also buy a milkshake, frozen daiquiri, beer or water. A combo menu of burger, fries and a beer or water is available for just DKr100 and you’ll also find fried chicken and hot dogs on the menu.

Tommi’s burgerjoint
Iceland’s number one burger chain has achieved great success in Copenhagen’s Kødbyen district. Tommi’s is relatively small, with an interior that could easily be the backdrop to a B-movie, but they’re mad about the concept in this hipster area and there’s often a queue outside. The menu contains classic American burgers with juicy grilled meat in a soft bun without too many frills. There have a regular burger, cheeseburger, vegetarian and children’s burger and you can buy extras such as cheese or bacon. They also sell shakes, beer, wine and water to accompany your burger and you can have a meal including burger, fries and water for DKr99.
